CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES NSW/ACT

Overview

Catholic Social Services NSW/ACT is a branch of Catholic Social Services Australia, the Catholic Church’s peak body for social services. Catholic Social Services NSW/ACT carries out its Mission by interacting with Catholic organisations, governments, other churches and all people of good will, to develop social welfare policies, programs and other strategic responses that enhance the human dignity of every person and work towards the economic, social and spiritual well-being of the people of NSW and the ACT.

The Branch aims:

  • To further the Mission at Branch level by providing a forum for members to share expertise, experience and raise local issues in relation to service provision; and
  • To contribute to local debate and policy development in relation to welfare provision in NSW and the ACT.

Catholic Social Services NSW/ACT currently has thirty four member organisations. Services they provide are funded by the Australian, New South Wales and ACT Governments and fall broadly into the following categories:

  • Children & Family Services
  • Youth Services
  • Ageing and Disability Services
  • Employment Services
  • Education Services
  • Counselling Services

The Branch has an Executive Committee, made up of directors or managers of Member Agencies that are elected every second year and are responsible for maintaining the workplan of the Branch. The Executive Support Officer (ESO) position was created in July 2005 to facilitate the development of the NSW/ACT Branch. The ESO provides strategic advice and support to the NSW/ACT Branch and Executive; facilitates communication and collaboration between member organisations; and co-ordinates the development and implementation of the Branch’s strategic plan.
